It's All In The Planets

Image
Preeti Shenoy has been breaking stereotypes through her writing since long. Her books have stories around tough female leads, unconventional themes and focused on breaking the prejudiced image that the society holds. There are those characters who believe in breaking off a year old engagement with their fiancés when out of love, rather than carrying on with marriage as their parents or society would want. And there are those who believe that living-in is a multiple time better than marriage. You’ll find proposals where the girl proposes her beloved move in with her and he replies with a yes. There are unconventional characters and their happy lives which are away from the societal norms. ‘It happens for a reason’ had an unmarried single mother raising her son amidst tough circumstances away from family and all natural support systems. ‘The secret wishlist’ – it is bold when it says that housewives can have dreams and wishlists too. Wanting to do Salsa dance isn’t being an i...

Why you should read ‘It Happens For A Reason’?

The author: It’s rare that an author leaves so much of herself in her books- as if chunks of her life and soul in the characters that she creates. When you have followed your favorite author through her blogs, writings, talks and interviews for years, you know what she believes in, what all things she stands for, she raises her voice against, her likes, her dislikes, and her passions. Preeti Shenoy writes about love for dogs- the extremely loyal, infinitely loving canine companions. They may be mute and dumb, but are the ultimate epitome of selfless love. She writes about her craze for fitness and her delight in comfort food. She writes about her relationship with her son and how much she is proud of him through her characters. She talks of her zeal and enthusiasm for gardening, her attachment to plants and her love for greenery. She vents about her obsession with creativity and love for travel and adventure. I totally love her artworks, paper quillings, and portraits. Awaiti...

My favorite blogs: A review

If you are up for some food-for-thought, or feel-good stuff,  Memoirs of Me  is the blog for you. Going by the name of 'privy-trifles', it has the right measures of short stories, inspirational quotes, random just-so thoughts, and basically write-ups on life, as it is... The short stories, written under the title of Metro Diaries, are really good. The author is intelligent. She posts the stories in episode, series format. Once you read the first part, you can't help but search and read the next part and the next part... And I love the titles of her posts--"Inspired Inscribes", "Splurge and Emotions", "55 Fiction", "Flash Fiction", "Wishful Thinking", "Painting Life"...and many more...she does write from the heart...and she is an eternal dreamer.. If you are an avid book reader, love to read books of myriad genres, and want to chose the right book out of a few, you can totally rely on  ALPHA reader - her book ...

Queeristan by Parmesh Sahani

Queeristan (Amazon Link) Thanks to Audible Free Trial I listened to this amazing non-fiction on LGBTQ inclusion in Indian workplaces. Author Parmesh Sahani identifies as gay Indian, working closely with Godrej higher management and employees for years to create an inclusive workplace, both legally and in spirit. This book is a result of those years of experience, research, collaboration with individuals from difference spectrum of the society and organizations who has successfully transitioned into a queer friendly one.   Indian history is inclusive. From the Khajuraho temple architectures, to Konark to the Rig Veda, there is existing proofs even 2000 years ago of Indian inclusiveness of queer. It’s the draconian British law that criminalised it, which was scraped in 2009, came into effect once again following a sad judgement in 2013 and eventually was scraped off for good in 2018. I am in awe of the lawyers who fought this legal battle- colleagues and partners – Arundh...
